Saving Animals & Finding Homes

What We Do

Animal Rescue

Animal rescue organizations play an important role in creating healthier, safer, and more compassionate communities. Every year, countless dogs, cats, and other animals become homeless because they are lost, abandoned, neglected, or surrendered by families who can no longer care for them. Rescue groups give these animals another chance by providing shelter, food, medical treatment, rehabilitation, and opportunities to find loving homes.

Animal rescue also benefits the entire community. By helping reduce the number of stray animals, rescue organizations can decrease overcrowding in local shelters and help prevent animals from suffering on the streets. Many rescue groups also support spay and neuter programs, vaccinations, microchipping, and responsible pet ownership education, all of which contribute to healthier animal populations.

Rescue organizations also bring people together. Volunteers, foster families, veterinarians, donors, local businesses, and adopters work toward the shared goal of improving the lives of animals in need. These efforts encourage compassion, responsibility, and community involvement.

Most importantly, animal rescue reminds us that the well-being of animals is a community responsibility. Supporting rescue organizations through adoption, fostering, volunteering, donations, or advocacy helps create a community where both people and animals can thrive.

Pet Advocacy

Petfinder & Fostered Animals

Many of our adoptable cats and dogs are lovingly cared for in foster homes before they ever appear on Petfinder. Living in a home allows us to truly get to know each animal’s personality, routines, likes, dislikes, and the type of family where they’ll thrive. Because our foster families spend every day with them, they play an important role in finding the perfect forever home. They know when a kitten would love another feline friend, which dog enjoys hiking adventures, or which pet would be happiest curled up on the couch with a quiet family. Their insight helps us create successful, lifelong matches for both the pet and the adopter.

One of the most rewarding parts of fostering is watching these animals begin the next chapter of their lives. Our foster families have the unique privilege of getting to know prospective adopters throughout the process, and many of those relationships grow into lasting friendships. We love receiving updates, holiday photos, funny videos, and seeing our former foster babies living their very best lives—whether they’re starring on their own Instagram page, exploring new adventures, or simply snuggled up on the couch with the family who loves them. While saying goodbye is never easy, knowing they are exactly where they belong makes every moment worthwhile. There is no greater reward than watching a once-homeless animal become a cherished member of a loving family

Fundraising / Events

At Friends of the Tracy Animal Shelter, we believe saving lives should be just as fun as it is meaningful! Throughout the year, we bring our community together through exciting events that celebrate animals while raising critical funds for the Tracy Animal Shelter. From our crowd-favorite Hot Pawgust Nights Car Show, our Famous Fun Run, Cheese Sleigh, Photos with Santa Paws, Paint Nights, Bunco, Bingo, baking competitions, adoption events, restaurant fundraisers, auctions, holiday celebrations, and so much more, we’re always dreaming up new ways to engage our community. If it brings people together, creates smiles, and helps save homeless animals…count us in!

Every event, raffle ticket, sponsorship, vendor booth, and donation helps provide medical care, nutritious food, enrichment, foster support, and second chances for the animals who need us most. But our events are about more than fundraising—they’re about building a compassionate community where everyone can make a difference. Whether you’re running in our Fun Run, laughing through a game of Bunco, creating your masterpiece at Paint Night, posing with your furry friend during Photos with Santa Paws, or joining us for our one-of-a-kind Cheese Sleigh event, you’re helping write a happier ending for a shelter pet. Together, we’re proving that when a community comes together with kindness, generosity, and a little fun, incredible things happen—one wagging tail and happy purr at a time.

What Drives Us

Our Mission

At Friends of the Tracy Animal Shelter, we believe every animal deserves compassion, hope, and the opportunity to find a loving home.

Our mission is to strengthen and support the Tracy Animal Shelter by providing lifesaving medical care, fostering opportunities, enrichment, volunteer support, community education, and critical resources that improve the lives of homeless animals. Through collaboration with shelter staff, dedicated volunteers, donors, and community partners, we work tirelessly to increase live release rates while promoting responsible pet ownership, spay and neuter initiatives, and humane treatment for all animals.

We are committed to creating a compassionate community where every life is valued, every animal has a voice, and every pet is given the chance to thrive.
Together, we are transforming lives—one rescue, one adoption, one act of kindness at a time.

Why Adopt?

Pet adoption offers countless benefits for both animals and their new families. Adopting gives a homeless pet a second chance at a safe, loving life while helping reduce overcrowding in animal shelters. Adopted pets can provide companionship, comfort, and unconditional love, bringing happiness into the home. Adoption also supports responsible pet ownership and allows shelters to help more animals in need. Most importantly, adopting a pet creates a meaningful bond that can last a lifetime.
